Our theatre
In November 1927 the prominent Soviet actor, librettist, and director Grigory Yaron founded Moscow State Academic Operetta Theatre. Along with renowned masters Jacques Offenbach, Johann Strauss Jr., Franz Lehár, and Emmerich Kálmán, its playbills also featured the greatest Russian composers. Isaak Dunayevsky, Tikhon Khrennikov, Dmitri Shostakovich, and many others created exclusive shows for Moscow Operetta Theatre.
Since its foundation, Moscow Operetta Theatre has presented more than 250 premières. Its current repertory includes dozens of operetta and musical titles; over 300 shows are presented each year. Today, Moscow Operetta Theatre is at the forefront of contemporary musical in Russia. Its original productions Monte Cristo and Count Orlov earned a passionate following and became the longest-running musical shows in the country, with an aggregate audience of almost two million.
The theatre is located at the very heart of the Russian capital, near the Kremlin, Theatre Square, and Bolshoi and Maly Theatres as well as popular promenades and best local restaurants and bars.
The Moscow Operetta Theatre building is a 19th century architectural masterpiece with a capacity of 1,500 and luxurious interior with a picturesque plafond by the famous Russian painter Konstantin Korovin.
In 2017 Moscow Operetta Theatre celebrates its 90th anniversary. The theatre’s philosophy of pairing best stage traditions with innovative technologies results in spectacular and contemporary shows. The classical auditorium interplays with cutting-edge lighting and sound solutions to create unforgettable experiences for the audiences of Moscow’s finest musical productions.
